Bringing Us A Post Punk Tinged But Still Rule Busting Second

Bring Me The Horizon unveil Post Human: NeX GEn – Their second instalment of their POST HUMAN series

Bringing us a post-punk-tinged but still rule-busting second

"NeX Gen does absolutely everything it can to piss of metalcore purists"

The seventh studio album by British rock band Bring Me The Horizon, NeX GEn (stylised as POST HUMAN :NeX GEn) is the second instalment in the previously announced POST HUMAN series, following on from last year's POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR EP. The band have said they will be releasing four EPs in total under the POST HUMAN banner, with the full album being made up of the 12 tracks across all four EPs.

Having pushed their sound into new and exciting territories with last year's EP, Bring Me The Horizon have gone even further with NeX GEn, incorporating elements of electronica, hip hop, ambient and pop into their post-hardcore. The result is a disorientating and often confrontational listen that nevertheless finds the band sounding as fresh and vital as ever.

Album opener 'Dear Diary,' featuring guest vocals from Evanescence's Amy Lee, sets the tone for the rest of the record with its glitchy electronics and haunting atmosphere. Subsequent tracks such as 'Parasite Eve' and 'Obey' are more conventional in structure, but still showcase the band's newfound willingness to experiment. The album's standout track is 'Teardrops,' a beautiful and heartbreaking ballad that perfectly showcases frontman Oli Sykes's vocal range.

NeX GEn is a quintessential Bring Me The Horizon experience and undoubtedly one of the most ambitious and forward-thinking albums of the year. It's a record that will divide opinion, but it's also one that will reward repeated listens. Bring Me The Horizon have once again proved that they are one of the most important and innovative bands in rock music today.
